# Commute IQ — Privacy Policy
**App:** Commute IQ
**Contact:** apps.rhythmthemes@gmail.com
This policy explains what data Commute IQ handles, why, and the choices you
have. It is written to match how the app actually behaves. In one sentence:
**everything Commute IQ collects stays on your device, and you can erase all of
it at any time.**
---
## 1. Summary
- Commute IQ passively logs your commutes between two places you choose (your
"Home" and "Work") and lets you record how each commute felt.
- All commute, location-history, mood, and cost data is **stored and processed
only on your device**, in a local database, and is **never transmitted** to us
or to any third party.
- Commute IQ has **no user accounts and no servers**, and works **fully offline
by default**.
- The **one exception** is an **optional** "precise online address search" you can
switch on: while it is enabled, the address text you type is sent to Google to
return matching addresses. It is **off by default**, you control it, and nothing
else — no commute history, no location trail, no mood data — is ever sent.
- We **do not sell or share** your personal data with anyone.
- You can **delete all of your data** at any time from **Settings → Delete all my
data**, which permanently erases it from the device.
---
## 2. Data we collect and why
All items below are collected **only on your device** and are used **only to show
you your own commute, cost, and mood information** inside the app.
| Data | What it is | Why it is used |
|------|------------|----------------|
| **Precise / approximate location** | Geofence "enter"/"exit" events at the two places you set as Home and Work, and (optionally) your current position when you tap "Use current location" during setup. | To detect automatically when a commute starts and ends. Commute IQ does **not** record a continuous location trail or track you between your two places. |
| **Physical activity** | Your device's activity classification (e.g. in a vehicle, cycling, walking) sampled **only while a commute is in progress**. | To estimate how you travelled (driving, transit, cycling, walking) so the trip's cost can be calculated. |
| **Mood entries** | The 1–5 mood rating you tap after a commute. | To let you see how your commutes relate to how you feel. |
| **Optional notes** | Free text you may add to a mood check-in. | Personal context for your own reference. It is optional and can be left blank. |
| **Commute & cost data** | Trip times, durations, estimated distances, computed costs, and your baseline cost settings (fuel price, mileage, or transit fare). | To calculate and display your commute time and cost trends. |
Commute IQ does **not** collect your name, email address, phone number,
contacts, photos, advertising identifier, or any account credentials. It contains
no advertising and no analytics or tracking SDKs.

## 3. How your data is stored and processed
- All data is stored in a **local database on your device** and in local app
settings.
- All processing — commute detection, transport-mode classification, cost
calculation, correlation insights, and the "what-if" simulator — happens
**on-device**.
- By default the app makes **no network connections**. It declares the `INTERNET`
permission solely to power the optional online address search described in
Section 4; with that feature off (the default), no data leaves your device.
- Your commute history, saved places, mood entries, notes, and cost data are
**never** sent off the device — not even when online address search is enabled.
- Device backup is disabled for the app, so your commute and mood data is not
copied into cloud backups.
---
## 4. Data sharing
We **do not share, sell, rent, or transmit** your commute, location-history,
mood, or cost data to any third party. By default no data leaves your device at
all. There are exactly two ways anything can leave, and both are initiated by
**you**: exports (below) and the optional online address search.
### Optional online address search (off by default)
To help you find exact Home/Work or "what-if" addresses, you can enable **precise
online search** in Settings. While it is on, the **address text you type into the
search box** is sent to **Google Places** (Google LLC) to return matching
addresses; Google processes it under its own privacy policy. This is the only
data ever sent to a third party, it happens only while the feature is on and only
for the text you actively type, and you can turn it off at any time. With the
feature off — the default — address search runs entirely through your device's
built-in geocoder and nothing is sent.
### Exports you initiate
Commute IQ can generate a **CSV or PDF report** of your commute time and cost
trends. These files are created on your device. They are shared **only when you
tap "Share"** and **only with the app or person you select** in the Android share
sheet. Commute IQ does not upload exports anywhere automatically.
---
## 5. Insights and wellbeing content
Commute IQ may show plain-language observations about patterns in **your own
logged data** (for example, that your recorded mood tends to be lower after
longer commutes). These are **observations about your entries only**. They are
**not** medical, diagnostic, therapeutic, or professional advice, and should not
be relied on as such.
---
## 6. How to delete your data
Commute IQ stores all of your data **only on your device**, and you can erase it
yourself at any time — no account, no request to us, and no waiting.
### Delete everything (in-app)
1. Open **Commute IQ**.
2. Tap the **Settings** icon (top right of the dashboard).
3. Scroll to **Privacy** and tap **Delete all my data**.
4. Confirm **Delete everything**.
This **permanently and irreversibly** erases every place, trip, mood entry, note,
app setting, and exported report file from your device. It cannot be undone.
### Delete by uninstalling
Uninstalling Commute IQ removes the app and **all** of its on-device data with it.
### Is there anything stored on a server?
No. Commute IQ has **no user account and no server**, so there is nothing for us
to delete on our side and no deletion request to us is necessary or possible. The
one optional feature that ever contacts a third party — precise online address
search (off by default) — sends only the address text you type to Google at that
moment and stores nothing; turning it off in Settings stops it entirely.
If you have any questions about deleting your data, contact us at the address in
Section 10.
---
## 7. Children's privacy
Commute IQ is a general-audience commuting tool and is **not directed to
children under 13** (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do
not knowingly collect data from children. Since all data stays on the device and
is never transmitted to us, we do not build profiles of any users, including
children.
---
## 8. Your permissions and choices
Commute IQ requests permissions **only when the related feature is first used**,
each with an in-app explanation shown before the system prompt:
- **Location** (including "Allow all the time") — for automatic commute detection
via geofencing. You can decline and still use the app by logging trips
manually.
- **Physical activity** — to classify transport mode. Optional; you can set the
mode yourself instead.
- **Notifications** — for the single post-commute mood prompt. Optional.
You can change or revoke any of these at any time in your device's system
settings. Revoking a permission simply disables the related automatic feature.
---
## 9. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the "Effective date" above and, where
appropriate, note the change in the app or store listing. Material changes will be
made clear before they take effect.
